- Congratulations to Janet E. Russell on her Queen's Counsel appointment announced on December 31, 2009! As stated by Justice Minister Alison Redford, "This designation recognizes outstanding expertise, work and contributions in a lawyer's public life." Janet joins Lorne Scott, Robert Hall and Domenic Venturo as Queen's Counsel at Scott Hall LLP.
- We welcome back Sarah N. Stevens who has been away from the office on maternity leave. Sarah will be rejoining our Corporate/Commercial Department.

- David M. Pick was successful in defeating a personal injury claim that went to trial last February. The Plaintiff claimed chronic pain as a result of a moderate rear end accident and had sought damages in excess of $700,000. The defence put forward by Mr. Pick was that the Plaintiff was fabricating his injuries and was malingering. After a three week trial, Justice Clark, in his December 21, 2009, Reasons for Judgment found that the Plaintiff was not credible, that he was manufacturing his symptoms and was a complete malingerer. Due to these findings, Justice Clark dismissed the claim and awarded the Plaintiff $0. [Tavakoli v. Junghans, 2009 ABQB 756]

Alex Gough
The change to the women’s start location in the luge competition proved to be challenging for our Canadian racers. However, Alex Gough came out fighting the second day and moved her standings from 22nd to 18th spot with a combined total of 2 minutes 49-391 seconds. Scott Hall LLP wishes to congratulate Alex for her hard work and determination. Well done Alex! We look forward to watching you in Sochi 2014.
We are so excited to watch Alex as she races for Olympic Gold on February 15 and 16, 2010!
January 31, 2010: Alex matches her best career World Cup result with a fourth-place finish in Cesana, Italy with a time of one minute, 34.116 seconds.
January 10, 2010: Alex captures her third top-10 finishof the season after sliding to a sixth-place finish at a Luge World Cup race in Winterberg, Germany.
December 6, 2009: Although trouble with her sled brings a 12th place finish for Alex, she helps her team win a bronze medal in Altenberg, Germany.
On Saturday, November 28, 2009, Alex slides to the first World Cup luge podium of her career after finishing fourth in Igls, Austria.
On Friday, November 20, 2009, the world's top seeded athletes took part in the Challenge Luge Cup competition - a head-to-head dash for cash in men's and women's singles and men's doubles.
Alex led the Canadian charge finishing in third spot in the women's event.
On Saturday, November 21, 2009, at the Women’s Luge World Cup Race, Alex matched her
career-best World Cup result on her home track in Calgary, finishing sixth. She clocked a two-run time of one minute 34.529 seconds.
Nicole Garrido
Scott Hall LLP is proud to announce that Nicole Garrido has been selected as an alternate (3000 and 5000 metres) on the 2010 Canadian Olympic Women’s Speed Skating Team! The Canadian Women’s Team is one of the strongest in the world so Nicole’s achievement is all the more impressive.
While there is no guarantee that Nicole will compete at the Games, she is the youngest member of the Team and, as such, has a bright future. We expect that Nicole will be a force to be reckoned with at the 2014 Games in Sochi, Russia.
